Mojitos Number 6: The Pressroom
(by Marian Pontz)
There is a heat wave as I write this review. It is so hot that when a dear friend of mine invited me to dinner outside on the deck at The Pressroom in Lancaster, management would not allow us to sit outside by the fountain in the shade, and enjoy our meal al-fresco: “Heat advisory too dangerous for our customers.”
Instead they escorted us inside, where we resigned ourselves to our hunger (and our mature acceptance of the restaurant’s policy).
It was not until 30 minutes into our visit that we discovered the restaurant's cooling system was struggling and that it was probably hotter inside than out.
Our waitress was patient and lovely. A mojito was ordered and promptly delivered. Presentation was perfect. It was served in a nice large glass with plenty of mint and limes swirling throughout. The first sip was good, not great. It was missing something, but honestly I don’t know what it was.
It was like picking out a book with an eye catching flashy cover but finding the read to be slightly boring and lacking in substance. I would say this mojito was lacking in character development (or enough simple syrup). Or perhaps even more detrimental — quantity or quality of the rum.
Overall the evening was hot, the restaurant’s policy silly, the food tasty, the portions generous, my friend divine, and the mojito worthy of 3 Cuban dancing girls.
